About this object

Highly structured ivory silk girdle with diamond and line geometric pattern. The girdle had metal stays and a metal busk running 2/3 of the front length. Below the busk are three metal hooks on elastic and three metal reinforced grommet holes. The back lacing made of a woven silk ribbon is laced through sixteen pairs of metal reinforced grommet holes. The top and 1/3 of the length of the busk are lined with machine lace edged with a ribbon. The bottom of the girdle is also edged with silk ribbon. Descending from the busk are two ivory elastic garters with stamped metal clasps for adjustment and metal and rubber clasps for the stockings—one is no longer attached. There are two of the same garters attached to the back of the girdle but one is now lost
