About this object

Ivory, silk corset with lily of the valley pattern. The corset had metal stays and a metal busk with five slide clasp secure it. The back side of either part of the busk and closure are lined with cotton backed with white velvet. The back is lace with a woven silk ribbon laced through eleven pairs of metal reinforced grommet hole. The top of the corset and ¾ of the length of the busk are adorned with 3” of handmade lace with a scrolling leave motif and curling ribbon sewn onto the lace. The very top of the lace is edged with a double row of ribbon and ¼” of scalloped lace. Descending from either side of the bottom of the busk are 1 ¼” wide, pleated, silk garters with stamped metal clasps for adjusting and sliding metal and rubber clasps at the end are stamped: “rubber button.”
