NAPKIN, ONE OF 10

Creator(s):

About this object

Off-white plain-weave cotton and/or flax square napkins sparsely decorated with various white work techniques. Three of the corners feature approximately ¼” square areas where the plain weave was cut away for a hand crocheted motif of three sheaved stalks of wheat or husks of corn, orientated to the center of the textile and visible when folded in quarters. The fourth corner at the lower right is ornamented with an approximately 1” tall cut-away area where a hand crocheted standing bird is flanked by two more smaller cutaway squares of the same hand crocheted wheat design. The napkin is finished with a drawn-work edge, rolled hem, and ornamented at each corner with seven corded loops.
