About this object

Inverted saucer shaped (unfurled) parasol with cream silk and Battenburg lace cover. A 6cm wide cream silk ruched band serves in place of an open cap. Brass ferrule, top/bottom springs and runner. Eight brass ribs, stretchers, and tips. Cream silk rosettes cover the runner and the inside-cap. The hand-stitched tie is of the same fabric as the cover; with a hand-stitched white button and thread covered loop closure. A cream silk, hand-stitched rosette band is attached between the runner and the handle. A green painted wood tube carved at the base in an imitation of bamboo and terminates in a brass cap. The handle is a stylized brown field mouse, amidst grass blades, molded in plastic.
