About this object

The plate is part of a dowry service for Grand Duchess Olga, daughter of Nicolas I, made at the Russia’s Imperial Glassworks. Shallow round cranberry-red clear glass plate with sunflower-like design cut on the underside (one of a set of six). The design consists of a single flower with ten pointed tongue-shaped petals on the rim and a stylized central disk on the body of the plate. Each petal is formed by a plain exterior border and fine diamond cross-hatching on the interior. The central disk is formed by a lattice-shaped pattern, each opening of which is further embellished with an 8-pointed star. The same latticework with stars motif but on a smaller scale is repeated on the rim between the petals. The exterior lip of the plate has a narrow plain border.
