About this object

On back of outer case of watch is set with enamelled miniature portrait bust of Catherine, second wife of Peter the Great, later Empress Catherine I. Around this is all over silver filigree set with old mine cut diamonds and four small oval medallions with busts of men in gold. Case on opposite side which opens to show the face of the watch, has in the center the same filigree with diamonds and four gold medallions with masks. Case opens and watch can be taken out. Face is in gold, engraved. Hours are in Roman numerals in silver with a small diamond between each one. On outer band are seconds in Arabic numerlas in black enamel on gold. Sides are beautifully worked with rinceau in openwork. On lower part is a medallion with a mask. back is engraved with a rosette and has a hole for winding. Crystal lifts off the face and face lifts to reveal interior and works. Set with diamond. Key in two parts and has projecting piece in openwork.
