About this object

The octagonal case of this clock is topped by a pair of doves that rests on an octagonal pedestal with tasseled fringe and four pairs of goat's legs. The dial is in white enamel with black Arabic numerals and the name "Maniere, Paris". Sèvres allegorical groups in biscuit flank the clock. At the left is figural group entitled "La Leçon de l'Amour" with a kneeling woman, scantily clad, being scolded by Cupid. At the right is a group inscribed "La Leçon à l'Amour" which shows a modestly dressed woman seated on rocks scolding Cupid. The oblong base with round ends rests on ten gilt bronze feet. The front of the pedestal has a long panel in gilt bronze with a relief of putti on parade dancing and playing musical in front of a chariot drawn by two goats. The rest of the base is decorated with panels of applied foliage in gilt bronze on a blue, steel background.
