About this object

On the cover of the rectangular cigarette case is an oblong panel decorated with a view of the Moscow Kremlin en plein enamel. The view is somewhat compressed to include the Old Stone Bridge (built 1858), the Great Kremlin Palace, the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael, the Great Kremlin Palace, the Water Pumping Tower and the Savior Tower. Part of the Sofia Embankment is visible at right. The remainder of the box is decorated in champlevé enamel in black and light blue in an allover pattern recalling lacquer boxes decorated with inlaid silver. On the underside is an engraved medallion with a blue and white enamel frame.
