About this object

The background is in dark blue enamel with a lattice and fleurettes in raised white enamel. On each section is a cartouche painted in colors and with a frame in raised gilt scrolls. On the lower half a shepherd carrying his crook and two sheep in a landscape, and a shepherdess reading to a shepherd seated beside her on a bank with sheep and trees in the background. On the upper half the cartouches are painted with flowers on a white ground. On the cover is a spray of leaves and flowers in gilt, raised, against a dark blue ground. Ormolu mounts are finely chased. On the inside are four fittings, two other are missing.
