About this object

On the obverse, the head of Alexander I facing right and wearing a laurel wreath like a Roman Caesar. Inscribed around "ALEXANDRE I, EMPEREUR DE TOUTES LES RUSSIES" Inscribed under the neck "ANDRIEU. F.", inscribed at the lower edge "Denon. D.". On the reverse, a winged Nike or Victory facing left, seated under a laurel tree and writing on a tablet "SEJOUR D'ALEX.I A PARIS". Signed by Andrieu and Denon with the date 1814. Medal struck in commemoration of the victory of the Allies and in particular in honor of Alexander I in 1814. The Nike does not write Paris conquered by Sojurn at Paris to lessen the sting of Alexander entering France with other victorious Allies.
