About this object

On back of bowl is a round medallion with a landscape with buildings in niello on silver. Thin part of handle is twisted. Flat part, front and back, has a long spray of flowers and leaves in niello raised against a stippled gilt ground.

Assayer's mark [Cyrillic initials above a date] ??/1832 Stamped at rear, base of spoon handle. Although the initials are not visible, the presence of a bottom bar of a serif on the right suggests that they are most likely those of Velikii Ustiug assayer Nikolai Matveev Igumnov (1827-34) Maker's mark [Cyrillic caps initials] A Zh Stamped at rear, base of spoon handle.
