About this object
The form of the table ornament is composed of three elaborate sections. It is topped by a finial of a female figure standing on a pedestal. She is nude to the waist, wearing a helmet and holding a ewer in her right hand. Next is a horizontal platform in openwork, composed of shells, leaf scrolls and four dragons, their heads raised, their wings forming the edge and their snake-like bodies coiling below to attach to the stem. A knopped stem links the platform with the stepped base which spreads downward to tripod feet. The base is composed of an urn with three feet resting at three open-mouthed lion masks, a drum-like section surrounded by three seated putti playing musical instruments alternating with three peaked cap-like motifs, and three scrolled feet.
