About this object

This has been exhibited with 15.66 since its acquisition. The silver egg stand rests on three swan feet. The rim to hold the egg rests on the three swans' necks which are curved and on their outspread wings. A smaller rim connects the swans at the bottom of their bodies. Each of the rims is chased, the upper one in a palmette pattern, the lower one a continuous scroll. The swans are in high relief with chased feathers on their wings and breasts. The piece is quite heavy and sturdy, and is cast.

MARK Head of a Greek woman, strucked 3 times- Mark indicating the highest silver fineness (958 miliemes) from end of 1794-1797. However, this mark has no value as a guarantee. Head of an old man, frontal view, with an 8 to the left and a 5 to the right- Guarantee mark, denoting medium guarantee, 1798-1809. Maker's mark, Possibly that of Genu (Mari-Joseph-Gabriel), working 1788-1811. Rooster with spread wings, head facing left and 1 to the right,on an octogon guarantee for highest silver content 1798-1809.
