Creator(s): Cartier (Firm)

On view in: French Drawing Room

About this object

This silver gilt frame contains a color photograph of Mamie Doud Eisenhower, wife of President Dwight D. Eisenhower and first lady of the United States from 1951-1963. The photograph was taken around 1956, during her residency at the White House; the frame therefore bears the presidential seal in silver gilt and enamel at top center.

The edge of the frame has narrow reeding enclosed by broader reeding that crosses over to form an X at the center of three sides of frame. At the top of the frame the broader reeding meets in an arrow that points to the Presidential seal in silver gilt and enamel. Frame contains a ca. 1956 color photograph mounted on paper of Mamie Doud Eisenhower.
