About this object

The cover of the box is decorated with an elaborate relief representing the trial of Catherine of Aragon, lst wife of Henry VIII, for divorce in 1533. Henry VIII is seated in the background with HR engraved above. Catherine with her attendants stands at the right. Cardinal Wolsey is seated at the left. The border for the cover and the sides of the box have floral designs carved deeply in the silver. The rest of the sides and bottom are engraved with a formal all-over pattern. The interior is gilt.
