About this object

The vase has four rows of three each of inset silver coins with tsars and tsarinas from the time of Peter the Great to that of Alexander III. Between these rows of coins are repoussé acanthus-like leaf decoration, two ending with fruit and two with blossoms. Underneath the lip is appliquéd the Russian imperial eagle in low relief, probably indicating this vase was an imperial order.
