About this object

The sides are decorated in repoussé with two rows of lozenges, one row pointing upward and the other downward, the alternate pairs having a formalized floral design also in repoussé, the other pairs being undecorated. There is a single row of these lozenges on the lid, alternately plain and decorated. On the top of the lid is a silver statuette of a peasant dancing. Around the foot is engraved an inscription in Russian. On the front of the tankard is engraved [ill.] with an inscription and the dates 1854-1879 and a monogram obviously indicating the tankard was an anniversary gift.
