About this object

The surface of the pencil holder is almost entirely covered with yellowish translucent enamel on a guilloche ground. There is a row of tiny diamonds at both ends of the pencil. The thumbpiece for extending lead is a cabochon sapphire. A larger sapphire cabochon is on the top of the pencil. There is a ring for fastening the pencil to a chain or chatelaine.
