About this object

The box is shaped like a commode with a bombe front and curved sides and rococo feet. It is covered inside and out with plaques of mother of pearl. Inside, the mother of pearl is plain. Outside, the mother of pearl is partly engraved with rococo scrolls and partly with relief work in molded and engraved gold. On the cover in gold against mother of pearl is an elaborate bower in scrolls and flowers with a shepherdess at the left and a young shepherd at the right. On the front also in gold is a landscape with a tree in the center under which two sheep are resting watched over by a dog. On the two ends are leaf and scroll work in gold against the mother of pearl. On the back is a landscape with a flowering tree, a goat and bird, all in gold relief on the mother of pearl. The scrollec mother of pearl feet are decorated in gold. On the interior is a removable partition in mother of pearl with a gold edge on the upper side.
