About this object

The egg is made in gold openwork with elaborate scrolls, which are engraved, and have details picked out in royal blue enamel. The blue and gold is emphasized by a red silk lining seen through the openwork. On the top sits a bluebird in gold enameled in natural colors. The bird is seated on a branch with fruit. The egg opens and there is an inner red velvet lining which holds a red glass perfume bottle with a gold stopper. A dove with outspread wings surmounts the top of the egg.
