About this object
On the cover, an oval carved intaglio in red agate depicts Hyllus attacking Eurytheus. This scene is framed by a narrow black enamel band with a tiny diamond at both the top and the bottom. At either side is an applied ornament in the shape of a stylized leaf set with tiny diamonds and sapphires. The cover is edged by a band in red enamel with a meander motif and a thin line in dark blue enamel on the inner side. A square floweret in white gold set with diamonds and a sapphire in the center adorns each corner. A very small thumbpiece is set with tiny diamonds. The box rests on stylized bracket feet.
