About this object

The oval box is hinged. The cover, bottom and sides have panels with dark blue enamel over striped-engine turning. The one on the top has a small scale scene in painted enamel of a garden with a cupid holding a lyre, standing beside a pedestal supporting an urn. At the left is a dog barking and a fountain. At the right are two doves in flight and a balustrade. The scene is surrounded by two garlands, the inner one with red flowers intertwined with a gold chain, the outer one a single floral vine with gold flowers. All the faces are edged by a chased gold grape vine. The bottom has a similar scene with a cupid seated on pink clouds holding a basket of flowers, with a lamb at the left, and two doves at the right. The four panels on the sides are covered with blue enamel.
