About this object
The egg is made from two pieces of bloodstone which are hollowed out. Each is held in a cage chased in gold with rococo scrolls that are criss-crossed with swags of roses. At the top is a ring for suspension. The hinge has an inscription with gold letters on a white enamel ground.
