About this object

At the top of the chatelaine is an irregular plaque with a pin on the back which is decorated on the front with trophies and a lover's knot on the top. Attached to the bottom edge are two small bars set with tiny diamonds. The central pendant is a large perfume bottle hanging by two elaborate gold chains attached to hinges. On the front of the bottle is a monogram in gold and diamonds within a circle of diamonds and a spray of laurel leaves at either side. On the back are various motifs in relief. Around the neck is a row of tiny diamonds and the cover is a colored stone. The other pendants are: 1) an oval note pad with floral sprays in gold and diamonds on the front within a band of diamonds. The back is in openwork and opens sidewise to show several pieces of ivory for marking notes. 2) In the center hanging on a chain is a gold case for a pencil decorated with a swirl of engraved leaves and a circlet of tiny diamonds. 3) At the right hangs a small pendant with elaborate gold decoration set with a semi-precious stone engraved with the same monogram as on the front of the perfume bottle. The gold work is in several colors of gold.
