Location: Greenhouse & Meet in Visitor Center
Part of: Garden Events, Garden, Marjorie Merriweather Post
Sample a slice of Hillwood’s bountiful Greenhouse with this exclusive floral design workshop. During Marjorie Merriweather Post’s time, Hillwood gardeners began propagating chrysanthemums for fresh cut flowers. The 55-year tradition continues today, with more than 50 different types of mums grown on the Estate.
This hands-on class starts with a short tour of the working Greenhouse. You’ll learn how flower crops are harvested and prepared for use, as well as learning which Hillwood-grown chrysanthemums will augment flowers ordered in for your arrangement. Participants will then learn practical floral design techniques for floral arrangements in vases, while creating a stunning arrangement to take home.
All materials are included. Payment is required in advance due to materials fees, and is non-refundable. This program is limited to 10 people, and must have a minimum of 4 participants to take place. In the event that the workshop is cancelled, participants may choose to participate in another session.
Led by Jason Gedeik, Hillwood’s head of design operations.
