Marjorie Merriweather Post's tradition of opening her home to visitors for grand entertaining provides a fabulous backdrop for Gay Day.  This year, Post's opulent lifestyle, gracious hospitality, and the special exhibition, Living Artfully: At Home with Marjorie Merriweather Post, set the stage. 

Packed with staff experts and vibrant community partners, Gay Day is one of the best days to visit Hillwood!  Programming will include:

A morning Pancake Breakfast and family social, presented with Rainbow Families DCfrom 10 am-12 noon featuring:

  • Hot-off-the-griddle silver dollar pancakes with toppings
  • Lawn games, dress-up costumes, and a hands-on art project
  • Face-painting and silhouette portraits

Staff talks highlighting:

  • "Washington’s Downton Abbey in a Mad Men-Era," presented by Living Artfully curator Estella Chung
  • "Dressing Artfully," a look into Post's vast closets, presented by curator of costumes and textiles, Howard Vincent Kurtz
  • Floral Design Demonstrations, presented by head of greenhouse and design operations Jason Gedeik
  • An Estella Chung interview with John Greenawalt and Stephen Vanilio, founders of Book Arts
