This year the exquisite jewelry and luxury objects collected by and designed specially for Marjorie Merriweather Post, style icon and favored Cartier client, add a touch of sparkle to the 13th annual Gay Day.  

Be dazzled by Cartier: Marjorie Merriweather Post's Dazzling Gems, enjoy exclusive access to spaces not normally open to the public, and meet Hillwood's staff experts. Lively presentations by DC Lambda Squares, The Rock Creek Singers and Not What You Think round out the day.

Mansion: Staff Dining Room

Learn about the newly opened Staff Dining Room at Hillwood and get a glimpse into staff life at Hillwood. Presented by Estella Chung, curator of American material culture, historian, and head of oral history.

Out of the Closet

Learn about the dresses on display in Marjorie Merriweather Post’s bedroom suite in this illustrated lecture by Howard V. Kurtz, curator of costumes and textiles.

Floral Design Demonstrations

Jason Gedeik, head of greenhouse and design operations, discusses Hillwood’s 55-year tradition of growing fresh cut flowers for use in floral arrangements. Learn the basics of floral design as you watch Jason create a beautiful arrangement including blooms from the cutting garden.

This 12-person ensemble, affiliated with the former Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, presents pop, light jazz and folk songs.
