Gay Day

Gay Day at Hillwood, Washington DC

Square dancing on the Lunar Lawn

Information

Hillwood proudly welcomes the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities. Join us in September for a day of festive celebration, presented each year since 2001 and supported by Hillwood’s GLBT Advisory Committee.

Marjorie Merriweather Post's tradition of opening her home to visitors for grand entertaining is the backdrop for Gay Day. Traditionally beginning with a Family Garden Party with games, picture books, and hands-on fun entertain, breakfast treats are served on the Lunar Lawn with Rainbow Families DC. Gallery talks enlighten visitors about the collections, while performances from groups such as the Rock Creek Singers of Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington and DC Lambda Squares showcase the contributions of our community partners. Wrap up the day with Punch by the Porte Cocherre, a sociable toast to the GLBT community.
