Girl Scout Programs

Hillwood offers a number of programs designed especially for Junior Girl Scout troops! "In Fabergé's Workshop" fulfills six requirements necessary to earn the Jeweler badge and "Garden Journeys: Discovering the Japanese-style Garden" fulfills six requirements necessary to earn the Outdoor Creativity badge. The Japanese-style Garden at Hillwood also provides an excellent location for bridging ceremonies.

Hillwood offers additional public programs for other groups and families. For more information, please visit our programs page.

In Fabergé's Workshop (Junior Girl Scouts)
Girl Scouts will explore the Museum's collection of sumptuous and fanciful gifts created by imperial Russia's most famous jeweler, Carl Peter Fabergé! Girls will also encounter many magnificent "tokens of affection" made by Fabergé's predecessors and contemporaries and exchanged by 18th and 19th-century elites around the globe. Afterwards, Scouts will make their own golden, Fabergé-style creations for their own collections or for modern-day gift-giving! Activities fulfill six requirements for the Jeweler badge.

Garden Journeys: Discovering the Japanese-style Garden (Junior Girl Scouts)
Glorious formal gardens enliven the Hillwood estate--each one with its own story to tell! In this program, Girl Scouts will discover the beauty, tranquility, and whimsy of our unique "mountainside" Japanese-style Garden created in the 1950s for Hillwood's founder, Marjorie Merriweather Post. Scouts will have the opportunity to explore the garden, listen to traditional Japanese haiku inspired by nature, and learn about the haiku masters who created it! Scouts will be so inspired, they'll be able to write and share their own haiku drawn from the beauty surrounding them. Afterwards, Scouts will create their own miniature Japanese-style garden to take home!

Activities fulfill six requirements for the Outdoor Creativity badge.
