Spring Family Day: Fabulous Fabergé Eggs!
Sunday, April 9, 1:00–5:00 pm

Washington, D.C. – March 9, 2006 – Discover the Easter traditions of imperial Russia at Hillwood Museum & Gardens’ Spring Family Day: Fabulous Fabergé Eggs! Sunday, April 9, from 1:00–5:00 pm, this year’s Spring Family Day is made possible by the Bonnie Mapelli Youth Education Fund. Come enjoy Mansion and garden tours and a variety of program activities, including egg-decorating in Fabergé’s Workshop.

Families can join the ranks of Fabergé’s famed artisans, stepping into Fabergé’s Workshop to create their own versions of fabulous eggs to take home. Hillwood supplies the “glitz and sparkle” for the decorations, so just bring a vivid imagination. After making Fabergé-style eggs, try your hand at a traditional Russian egg-rolling game dating back centuries. It’s fun for children of all ages.

Hillwood will have a costumed interpreter portraying Tsar Nicholas II, the last emperor of Russia, sharing stories about his family’s Easter celebrations with their exquisite Fabergé eggs. Traditional Russian folk music will be performed by the Samovar Russian Folk Music Ensemble.  A storyteller will read two children’s stories, inspired by Russian Eater traditions: Rechenka’s Eggs, by Patricia Polacco and Stepka and the Magic Fire by Dorothy Van Woerkom. Self-guided tours of the Mansion and gardens are also available.

Reservations are required to attend the Spring Family Day. Admission is $7 per child, free for two (2) adults accompanying a child and $12 each additional adult; $10 seniors; $7 students. Children must be six years of age or older to tour the Mansion.

Hillwood Museum & Gardens is located at 4155 Linnean Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C., 20008. For reservations, call 202.686.5807 or visit www.hillwoodmuseum.org for more information or to begin your reservation request on-line. Free parking is provided.
