Hillwood’s most significant art acquisition in recent times is an extremely rare example of Russian Tula steel to mark the memory of beloved curator Anne Odom. The purchase of a magnificent steel candlestick encrusted with ornamentation in steel, silver and gold was made possible with Hillwood acquisition funds in association with the generous support of the Collectors Circle.
Join Dr. Scott Ruby, Curator of Russian and Eastern European Art, to learn more about the armament factory, and Tula’s intricate and ornate ornamental steel designs for which they were patronized by the Empress Catherine the Great, and coveted by her court and foreign dignitaries from all over the world. Chief Curator Liana Paredes will eloquently narrate the in-depth search that led her to Paris in pursuit of a truly unique and fitting memorial gift for Anne Odom.
The lecture will begin at 6:30 in the Visitor Center Theater.
