About this object

The image, in black and white, is on a card, within an oval on which is the number 1837. The subject is shown half-length facing three-quarters to the left, wearing a uniform with epaulets and two stars. His hat is tall with a standing brush visor and chin strap. The card is inscribed in ink in Cyrillic script at the top-Paris 1932 and at the bottom Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich. This is the grand duke who participated in the assassination of Rasputin with Yusupov (Iusupov). Because of this, his life was saved in the Revolution. He had been sent away with troops in Persia. He eventually made his way to France and then to the USA where he married an American and became a champagne salesman in Florida. He died at the age of 50 of tuberculosis. Apparently, he had been the commandant of the regiment in which the donor's father had served. Framed.
