About this object
.1 Blue, brown, green. A frieze of birds rendered in natural colors, sitting on tree branches or standing against a gold ground, enlivens the center of the vase. The gold ground was created by applying a tiny, swirling line of overall burnished gold on a matte surface, thus creating the impression of a slightly dull gold background that complements the brightly painted, colorful birds. Gilded handles scroll towards the center of the neck before branching into a palmette. The attached porcelain handles are gilded with a combination of matte and burnished gold that enhances the definition of the relief. Vase is mounted on a gilt bronze plinth.
