About this object

The Art Deco style necklace was created from three pieces--two matching bracelets from De Sedle's, which form the sides of the necklace, and one centerpiece designed by Cartier. It is composed of one cushion-cut blue sapphire, 237 square step-cut blue sapphires, and 1,181 diamonds of various cuts and shapes mounted in platinum. The neckchain features two lines of pavé-set diamonds bordered on either side with a line of square step-cut sapphires. This supports a fringe of bar-shaped pendants, each with double rows of pavé-set diamonds framing a row of square step-cut sapphires. The pendants are separated by pavé-set diamond spacer links. The centerpiece of the necklace is comprised of three hinged ornaments suspending fifteen tassels set with round, baguette-cut, and bullet-cut diamonds. The middle section is designed as an openwork shield-shaped plaque pavé set with diamonds. It is mounted with a large cushion-cut sapphire in the center and accented with square step-cut sapphires and baguette-cut diamonds. The openwork pavé-set diamond side sections are similarly enhanced with square step-cut sapphires and triangular-shaped diamonds. The centerpiece can be detached and worn separately as a brooch.
