About this object
The hinged box is rectangular in shape. It is heavily gilded all over. The cover is set with a fairly high relief cast which shows a scene in the 18th century conception of Greek-Roman costume and culture. A warrior is leaving with his soldier-aide while the wife pleads with him at his feet. A nurse isstanding at the right holds their child. The scene is framed in elaborate rococo scrolls. The sides have rococo scrolls enclosing birds, animals and flowers, all cast in high relief. The bottom is engraved with a rococo cartouche.
